Why, How and Where to Staycation in Chicago
Does anyone else have those weeks when you feel like you need a vacation, but you don’t have the time (or money) to book a last minute trip somewhere?
I feel this way A LOT and as a result have become a big fan of the staycation. You can use sites like hoteltonight.com to get last minute deals on luxury hotels in your own city and it’s just enough of a getaway to help you relax.
Why Staycation?
A lot of people don’t understand why I would spend money on a hotel in a city I live in, but there is something about a luxury hotel that is just so relaxing. You avoid the airport security lines and potential flight delays - and get to cozy up in a plush robe, order room service and feel like you’re a million miles away.
I also like them when I feel like I’m in a but of a rut. Sometimes day after day, week after week, things just become too routine and a staycation helps me shake things up!
How to staycation?
I move into serious self-care model when on a staycation. My itinerary usually looks something like this:
Check in to the hotel and then ask the concierge if there are any great restaurants with open reservations on any of the nights I am staying with them
Book a massage at the spa or at least check if they have spa amenities I can use like a jacuzzi or sauna
Grab a cocktail at the hotel bar, or even better, take a bath and then throw on a robe and order room service
Rent a movie, obviously
If we stay multiple nights, we usually spend our days shopping since we generally stay in the Gold Coast
Where to staycation?
Definitely check out which hotels have good last minute deals. I personally really like the Sofitel. They don’t have a spa, but the hotel is very comfortable and well located. I also love the french restaurant in the lobby for breakfast! We also recently stayed at the Park Hyatt which was also great. They have a nice outdoor terrace for lunch, cocktails or dinner. Both hotels also have bathtubs - a must during a staycation :)
