Favorite Coffee Shops in Chicago

One of my favorite weekend activities is going to get a latte while taking a walk around a cute Chicago neighborhood.  I don’t drink dark coffee but love a dirty chai tea latte, and more recently I’ve gotten into lattes with a hint of vanilla.  Here are some of my favorite coffee spots in the city:

  • 3 Greens Market: Located in River North near East Bank Club. This is the kind of spot where you can grab a quick cup of coffee or find a seat and spend the day working. I love their almond milk vanilla latte, jasmine iced green tea and chai tea latte.  If you want more than a drink, they have delicious pastries, doughnuts and bagels, all baked daily. They also have an amazing salad bar with warm and cold options if you’re looking for a healthy-ish lunch or dinner.

  • Petit Margeaux: Located in the heart of the Gold Coast in the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria. It’s a French-style coffee shop and bakery. They have the cutest outdoor area to sit and enjoy your coffee.  I get either a latte with almond milk and a hint of vanilla or their St. Tropez iced green tea.

  • Sawada Coffee: Located in the West Loop inside Green Street Smoked Meats. They have another location in NYC’s Tribeca neighborhood.  Their coffee is the same as 3 Greens Market (same restaurant group). Must try the military latte. It’s a mix between Japanese matcha green tea, vanilla, espresso and cocoa powder.

  • La Colombe: Located in a few neighborhoods throughout the city including West Loop, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park and all over the country! I love the almond milk cappuccino, mocha or draft latte here.  Something to be aware of, they don’t have vanilla to flavor your latte with.

  • Cupitol Coffee & Eatery: Located in Streeterville and Evanston. This European influenced spot has great coffee and food.  It’s another great spot to work from since there’s a ton of tables/chairs and couches.I love their cappuccinos and the baguette with gravlax.

  • Hero Coffee Bar: there are a few locations in the city including West Loop, The Loop, Lake View, South Loop and more. I haven’t been yet, but Katie visits the West Loop location regularly for a coffee and lox bagel sandwich - yumm!

Places that I haven’t been to yet but want to try:

  • Maison Marcel: French bakery with a few different locations

  • CC Ferns: Located in Humboldt Park and part of Hogsalt restaurant group

What are your favorite coffee shops in the city?
