Sakara Life Review
I was introduced to Sakara through Melissa Wood (@melissawoodhealth) one of my favorite Health/Wellness Infuencers on Instagram. If you are into plant based food, clean beauty and yoga/pilates, you will love following her. After seeing her post about Sakara meals I started to notice it pop up in more stories of other influencers I follow on Instagram. I was intrigued to find out more about this brand/meal service and how it works.
So here’s the scoop...Sakara delivers fresh organic meals to your door based on a whole-food, plant based diet that is nutrient-heavy and vegan. You can start with a 1 week trial with a choice of 3 or 5 days of meals. You also have the option to do a subscription if you want to order meals on an ongoing basis. They have different levels to choose from level 1 (Signature Program) and level 2 (Detox).
To start, I opted for the 3 day trial of level 1. Over the years, I’ve done variations of vegan and raw diets to feel better, so this wasn’t a huge transition for me. If you have never attempted a vegan diet, I would suggest you start eliminating meat/fish/dairy a few days before you start. It’s also important to note that this isn’t a quick weight loss program. Every meal is meant to make your body feel nourished and each meal was tasty and very carefully crafted. The meals were filling - I never felt hungry during the 3 days. Next time I try Sakara, I’ll choose level 2 detox. I can see why there’s such hype around it within the health/wellness industry.
Sakara is expensive and definitely something you have to be willing to invest in. I ended up spending $236 including a $50 discount @melissawoodhealth. If you break it down it comes to about $26 a meal, but along with the 3 meals for 3 days, they also sent 6 detox teas and probiotics.
A few tips to maximize your experience:
Jump start your cleansing period by eating vegan/raw 2-3 days before you start Sakara.
Clear your schedule and block off 3-5 days to do this in order to reap the full benefits. Remember, Sakara provides all of your meals. I had a few social events planned the week I did this and had to move some of my Sakara meals around to accommodate which wasn’t ideal.
Drink lots of water and use the detox teas.
Here’s the meals I had, my favorites are starred:
Day 1
Breakfast: Golden lassi parfait with pineapple*
Lunch: Sakara classic chopped salad with rice & beans*
Dinner: Middle Eastern bowl with preserved lemon hummus
Day 2
Breakfast: Maize muffin with probiotic berry coulis*
Lunch: Empress rice with sriracha seed crunch
Dinner: Black garlic BBQ burger with daily greens*
Day 3
Breakfast: Superseed muesli with blue majk mylk*
Lunch: Veggie satay bowl with achiote sauce
Dinner: Rustic tomato soup with Sakara grilled cheese*
In September, Sakara announced that some of their products are now being sold at Sephora! You can purchase their metabolism super powder, beauty/detox water drops and their super powder at Sephora.com or in store.
Overall, I had a positive experience and would recommend this meal service if you’re looking for a delicious healthy plant based option or cleanse.
